What to pack in your park bag can be overwhelming. Finding that perfect balance between having what you need and not carrying around the kitchen sink can be a tough task. Today, I’m giving you a peek into my park bag and hopefully helping you make the decision on what to pack and what to leave in the room (or at home).
If you do not have a stroller, remember that everything you bring you will carry on your back, and it gets heavy throughout the day. If my older children decide they want to carry things specific to them they carry their own bags. With that in mind lets take a look inside what I keep in my park bag.
First things first, you need a good bag. I prefer the backpack type bag to distribute the weight evenly, as I mentioned before, park bags get heavy after carrying all day. While packing my bag for the park each day I check the weather to make sure I am only carrying the necessities for that day. If it looks like it will rain I throw a poncho in the bag, if it looks like it will get cooler in the evenings I throw a light jacket in there. When it gets really hot you may want a cooling towel. The weather can be unpredictable at times, I recommend you bring these things from home as they can get pricy in the parks. You can also order items from Amazon Prime to be delivered to the resort.
My sunglasses case is in there because when I take them off I don’t want to just throw them in the bag. When you are in the heat, riding rides, probably not drinking as much water as you need to, headaches can happen, I like to keep some sort of headache medicine with me. If you tend to get motion sick on certain rides you may want to pack some motion sickness meds also. While we are on the subject of drinking you will want to make sure you are drinking plenty of water. I attach my resort refillable mug to my park bag to fill up at the water fountains or grab water from quick service restaurants. Keep in mind the mugs can’t be refilled with soft drinks in the parks. I also sometimes keep Crystal Light drops in my bag to add to my water.
Do you plan on riding water rides? Ziploc bags are great for putting things you want to keep dry. Snacks are another thing I like to keep in my bag. When one of the kids is too small to ride a ride it is a great time to take a rest on the bench and enjoy a little snack. I try to put snacks that won’t melt or get crushed in the bag. Cell phones are a huge help with the park apps and for pictures, but those batteries don’t hold up well to all day usage. I like to keep a portable charger with me, and preferably one that can charge multiple phones.
